SUMMARY:

The COO serves in a highly visible leadership capacity in our fast-growing startup healthcare technology company. This crucial position has profound influence on our organization’s strategic planning, business operations strategy, business development, and the achievement of organizational efficiency. The COO manages our day-to-day operations and drives the implementation of business strategies, requiring robust leadership skills and extensive experience in business administration and healthcare technology operations. The COO collaborates with our CEO and other executive team members to shape the company’s operating capabilities and spearhead the execution of actionable business strategies while ensuring employee productivity and operational excellence.

To thrive in this position, you must have deep knowledge and experience in the tech industry and strong high-level relationships in healthcare. You’ll utilize your experience creating and implementing coherent business operations strategies and managing performance in a healthcare technology startup. Ideally, you have a strong knowledge of the nation’s public health and healthcare landscape and infrastructure. You are a visionary, results-oriented leader with a proven track record of operational excellence, strategic thinking, and a passion for driving growth in a dynamic industry. Experience leading the IT and engineering teams and deep knowledge of engineering practices, the technology landscape, public health, and healthcare are all a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Leadership:

Provide strategic leadership and direction to the operations team, ensuring the seamless execution of operational and business processes.
Develop and implement operational strategies, policies, and procedures to optimize efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction and drive business growth and profitability.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows and enhance overall business performance.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize operational processes and enhance productivity.
Identify and mitigate operational risks, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the company, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness across all departments.
Oversee customer support processes and evaluate and organize them to enhance customer satisfaction.
Serve as an innovative thought leader on relevant trends in technology as they relate to emerging needs in public health and healthcare.
Monitor key performance indicators to track operational performance and make data driven decisions to ensure operational excellence.

Strategic Planning:

Collaborate with the CEO and other executives to define the company’s strategic direction and long-term goals.
Assist the CEO in overseeing the company’s achievement and maintenance of a satisfactory competitive position within its industry.
Contribute to the development of the company’s strategic plan, aligning operational objectives with overall business goals.
Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and customer needs to identify growth opportunities and potential risks and inform strategic decision making.
Play a key role in leading product development and launch, ensuring that products meet customer needs and are delivered on time and within budget. Work closely with the product development team to develop and implement effective product development strategies, optimize the product development process, and ensure the timely delivery of products.

Business Development:

Play a critical role in business development, including identifying new business opportunities, building partnerships, and expanding the company’s reach.
Work closely with company executives to identify target markets, strategies, technological advances, and products/services that are responsive to existing and emerging needs and trends in public health and healthcare.
Support the pursuit of business and funding opportunities from public and private agencies.
Work closely with the sales team to develop and implement effective sales strategies, identify new revenue streams, and optimize pricing strategies.
Leverage previous business relationships and establish and maintain new partnerships and relationships with stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and other key players in the industry, ensuring ongoing communication and collaboration, regular meetings, and identifying opportunities for joint initiatives and projects.

Leadership & Team Management:

Lead and develop a high-performing team, encouraging collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
Manages human resources to recruit skilled talent and keep the best employees.
Foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices, customer focus and service, and encourages individual integrity.
Motivate and inspire team members, set clear goals and expectations, and provide guidance and support in achieving individual objectives.
Directly manage and oversee the Sales and Marketing Team, ensuring revenue growth and customer satisfaction.

Financial Management:

Work closely with the CEO to develop and manage budgets, financial forecasts, and cost-control measures to drive informed decisions related to investments, fundraising, and other financial matters that will directly impact the company’s success.
Maintain a deep understanding of the company’s finances and analyze financial data to ensure the financial health and growth of the company.
Perform regular cost-benefit analyses to improve operational efficiency and/or reduce costs.
Implement financial best practices to drive profitability and fiscal responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations management, or a related field; MBA highly preferred.
5+ years of proven experience in an operations leadership role within the technology industry; ideally in the public health or healthcare technology space at the multi-state or national level.
Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and relationships in the public health and/or healthcare industry.
Experience taking a start-up or small/medium size business to the next level.
Strong knowledge of the nation’s public health and healthcare landscape and infrastructure and deep understanding of the market, competition, products, and latest technological developments in the space.
Understanding of the relationship and distinctions between public health and healthcare.
Knowledge of individuals, agencies, and sources of information, both in the private and government sectors, that influence decision-making in the public health and healthcare landscapes.
Experience leading IT and engineering teams and deep knowledge of engineering practices, the technology landscape, public health, and healthcare are highly preferred.
Strong business acumen and a strategic mindset with the ability to translate vision into actionable plans. Financial literacy and the ability to analyze complex data to inform decision making.
Demonstrated success in developing and executing operational strategies that drive business growth in the tech industry.
Experience driving operational efficiency, process improvement, and change management.
Excellent leadership, people management, and team building skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams.
